Contemplation is one of the core practices of The Simplicity of Stillness® because it illuminates our sense of understanding in ways that are not possible through any other means. While there is great knowledge to be acquired from books and instructors, what we discover in contemplation, only arrives when we tap into our deepest knowing, and reflect on the answers given.
As stillness magnifies our awareness, guidance arrives in many forms – we can see what we’ve resisted, where we’ve gotten locked into old patterns and beliefs, and where fear has caused us to lose our footing. It’s like shining a light anywhere we couldn’t see, to dissolve whatever stopped us from letting love in, and to guide us down new paths that weren’t visible before.
Most people are living life at such breakneck speed they don’t allow themselves the time or space to experience extraordinary insights and “aha!” moments. They are constantly distracted and busy, rarely having a moment where the chatter in their minds can slow down.
The wisdom we acquire from connecting with our essence helps us find direction in our lives to be more aligned with our vision. It is always inspiring, often humbling, and without interruption… imminently, consistently there. And all we have to do to receive it is take a moment to dive into the stillness, contemplate what arises and then act on the inspiration that arrives.
The Practice of Contemplation:
•Find time and a space where there is quiet. •Write down what you want guidance with, or the specifics of the challenges you are facing – as a way to bring focus to your contemplation. •Go into Stillness, requesting guidance. •Allow yourself to reflect on what you truly want to bring to your life. •Or reflect on the circumstances that are challenging you without looking for blame. Just see what is there – as an unattached bystander. •Then allow yourself to drift into the realm where all answers lie. You don’t need to continue thinking, just relax into the stillness. If possible, you can listen to a Stillness Sessions® CD to guide you deeper within. •If insights arise, it’s ok to open your eyes and write them down. Then, return to stillness. •Trust in the knowing that what you want to understand or discover will be revealed in the perfect time. •Continue journaling the insights that arise. Then return to the stillness for whatever time you have allotted – 5, 10 or 20 minutes. Open your eyes and continue with your day. Be sure to move on any actions you were inspired to write down. •The time you spend in the practice of stillness will begin drawing answers to you. Whether or not they arrive in this time of contemplation is inconsequential. As your concerns subside, and are released, there is space for greater insight to come in – and it always does.
