There is a quote from Mother Teresa that says, "We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless.  The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty.  We must start in our homes to remedy this kind of poverty."  But even the greatest parent is not always able to fill that love that a child wants.  Certainly, we can offer them everything we possibly can, but where that child or teenager can really tap into that deep state of freedom and love… is within.  It doesn't matter how many people tell you they love you, you could be sitting in a room filled with people who say they love you - and you could feel completely alone.

I experienced something similar as a teenager and left home at 16.  I was a runaway and I was filled with anger.  I didn't want to be on my own at 16, and that's what life handed me because I could not deal with being at home.   What I saw later is how much my life circumstances actually benefited me, because I began to look for that freedom, that love that no one can ever take away from you, from a very young age.

Many people mask their sadness and their lack of love through alcohol, through drugs, through all the things that we can entertain ourselves with today.  Unless you tap into that core that The Simplicity of Stillness accesses, you're not going to experience that profound happiness that exists within.

I had drifted from my pursuit of finding true freedom, when an injury reminded me to get back on track.  Often illness is a great messenger.  It suddenly occurred to me that I'd stopped my journey and needed to return to it.  So I really gave space for more time for more times of Stillness.  As I did, experiences began to come to me.

On the morning of November 11 in 2001 I woke up with this horrible feeling of unworthiness.  I thought that I would not be able to receive what I truly wanted because I was unworthy.  That I absolutely couldn't be loved and couldn't be given that deep love because of all the crazy things I had done in my life and my childhood.  This feeling was so intense.

Suddenly, it was like this energy began to move through my body.  It was literally pulling out all of that sadness and all those thoughts of unworthiness.  The experience wasn't something intellectual.  It was very physical.  I could feel it moving through my body.  Then I began to feel so much love that it wasn't just in my body, it was radiating out from my body.

That experience lasted for quite some time.  It's kind of a timeless state.  Then it expanded out for months after that.  I can only say that this was the critical moment that made me know my life was changing.  This is what I'd asked for my whole life and it's what's to be share with others.  Everyone has this, and anyone can easily access it through the Simplicity of Stillness.
